Event Details

Claque has been awarded a grant to train a core of community volunteers in educational drama techniques. Initially, we will devise an interactive experience for children aged 8-11 for St Barnabas' School, Tunbridge Wells, who have agreed to be our lead school. We shall be running a series of one day (weekend) education drama workshops for anyone interested in participating. Minimum age:18.

The Role Players will learn techniques of improvisation in drama and be involved in preparing an improvised drama experience to take into school. These are not performances but interactive learning experiences through which the pupils actively assume imagined roles to solve problems and explore issues and events around prescribed subject content. The social context of the drama will be informed through consultation with school staff, relevant social services and ‘experts’ in the chosen field of exploration.

About the Trainer

Jon Oram is the Artistic Director of Claque Theatre. He has taught theatre and directed or written community plays throughout the length and breadth of Britain, in Europe, Canada and the United States. He has just completed his thirty-first community play in East Grinstead, West Sussex.

Jon trained in improvisation with Keith Johnstone, in mime with Marcel Marceau, LeCoq and Desmond Jones. He has been a drama advisor, toured the world with his one-man shows and written and directed physical theatre including 'Treageagle' and 'Fools Paradise' for Knee High Theatre.

“Jon is a leading authority on community plays and one of Britain’s finest theatre teachers. He is an inspiration as a teacher and director; people never leave his rehearsals less than surprised by what they achieve. In his  hands, it seems even the most unseasoned actor can do anything.”
